How can I create and utilize reusable snippets of text?

What I want to do is to have snippets of text that I can include where needed as I write new posts and pages without having to be able to write code (at least, not very much).

Here’s one example: I have written a brief description of our business, which reads like that shown at the end of this message. I would like to be able to store that text somewhere in WP and then be able to insert it by reference into whatever I’m writing in a WP post or page just by some short cut link or reference, sort of like this:

blah blah blah blah
[about us]
blah blah blah etc etc etc

Is this something that is straightforward to do in wp 2.8.6?
