• Hello,

    I want to make a child theme for Twenty Ten, to position the sidebars at the top, alongside the header image.

    Here’s a rough sketch of what I want to achieve:

    https://din2ten.com/wp-content/temp/sketch.jpg

    I also recently installed Twenty Ten Weaver. One great feature of 2010Weaver is that it allows you to easily switch between, L sidebar, R sidebar, both on one side, or L and R, as I have done here: https://din2ten.com.

    But I think it will require a CSS mod / child theme to raise the sidebars up, so the top of the header image is in the same vertical position as the sidebars.

    Problem is, I can’t seem to identify what elements in the stylesheet or header.php file or other files, would need to be edited to achieve this, or exactly how.

    I also looked at the Dynamic Headers plugin, which has some great features, but I don’t think I see a solution for this in there either.

    Has anyone done this?
    Any clues or insights would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks a lot,

    Eric

    a footnote to this –

    ANY way of getting control of the header area, so that it is not one solid area of content with nav + title + description, but instead, three separate controllable areas, would solve my problem! Is there a widgetized header plugin somewhere?

    I hope there are some other folks seeking this functionality as well. After wrestling with it a bit, I just thought pulling the sidebars up, along with their widget areas, would do the trick. But maybe there’s even a better way? Any idea?

    Many thanks regardless.

    Please reply to his post someone. I am also stuck with a similar issue. I need to move my shopping cart from sidebar (widget #2) to header.

    help!

    Hello feelfree,

    I should chime in that my site is now running a different Theme entirely, so the links I provided for examples above are no longer relevant.

    I do look forward to anyone’s suggestions re: making dynamic areas in the header!

    Best regards,

    Eric

    Hello,

    I am currently trying to get this to work:
    https://www.numyspace.co.uk/~unn_w10023996/finewoodworksseq/wordpress/

    There is lot of work left to be done, so meanwhile I am hoping someone help. I am gonna try moving the code to header & check.

    will keep you posted then.

    Peace

    You can put widget areas anywhere, including the header
    https://www.rvoodoo.com/projects/wordpress/wordpress-tip-different-sidebars-on-different-pages/

    discussed how sidebars are registered and called

    Sidebars are just widget areas…. don’t let the name confuse you I have a widget area between my header and first post using that method

    @mr. Voodoo

    Thank you for your help. I was simply getting confused. I moved widget#2 from sidebar.php to header.php. It moved up & I could control the styles but the plugin itself (eShop) breaks. I will try n modify the plugin files. Hope it works.

    Thank you sir!
    PS: congrats, its offishul! ??

    @feelfree

    Hopefully you get everything figured out with the plugin. Moving your widget area shouldn’t break anything, if the code is all good.

    And thank you, btw!
