• Sorry for my English.

I have a self hosted WordPress site https://www.paperness.it styled with the Dyad theme to talk about my wife’s little physical shop.

I am now wishing to add an ecommerce capability and also start selling online (even though we will fight for real people to come and meet in the shop, live events etc.)

Can I keep my Dyad site and somewhat link a woocommerce one to it ?

Beginner here ?? Thanks for any clarification

  • hi @rjalexander,

yes you can. woocommerce is a plugin, which can be used with various themes. by installing you would have e-commerce capability. after installing and activating, you will see the setup steps.

    Thank you very much!
As I’m really beginning to understand I am asking dumb questions.

Why is it that I read that with WooCommerce you should use a “compatible theme” ?

Dyad is not amongst them as far as I understand.

As another way out of this confusion, would a separate instance of wordpress+woocommerce+storefront and a link to it (and back) from the current Dyad blog would be a viable alternative ?

    Take care

Using a theme which does not declare WooCommerce compatibility does not necessarily mean it won’t work. Sometimes it can result in page corruption to a greater or lesser extent. Minor display issues can be addressed with custom css.

    More here:
    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/third-party-custom-theme-compatibility/

However, just test it. Load up the plugin and add a couple of test products. Does it look good? If you can’t fix any issues, just deactivate the plugin. There should not be any after-effects, however, as always, best to take a backup first.

A separate install for your shop is viable, its just that if you can integrate the shop, your content will give it more gravitas. Try to have it on a subdomain: https://shop.paperness.it/
