How big of an upgrade is 2.3.1 from 2.1.4

I remember when they had an upgrade two years ago to 1.6 that was a major one that required a lot of work to get your stuff back. Is this just one that you can update and not have it affect all of your information. Our calendar works fine and there is no need to do anything other than just to keep it current with the version numbers. Thanks
