How About More Subject Tags?

Quite a few Business themes are being added to the Themes Directory.

No they’re not. That would get them zapped. Commercial products are not supported allowed these forums.

Oh you mean, “lite” versions of the themes that have “Buy! Me!” inside of them? That’s allowed obviously and works on the honor system. Authors are permitted to upsell and many do.

There is a Commercial Themes section and that’s fortunately vetted manually. It would become a den of spam sites if not. ??

What do you mean by business themes?

I don’t see the word Business, or any Categories of Business anywhere under the Subject column allowing a new or current user to more easily fine-tune a search for a theme he/she may be looking for. WordPress dot Com seems to be able to figure this out…how come we cant’t?

Seriously, .ORG and .COM are separate entities and it’s not just semantics. .COM is not .ORG and them having well, anything doesn’t necessarily translate into .ORG though they do contribute many resources, code and people here.

Edit: Also almost every commercial theme on .COM that is sourced from outside of Automattic is available for sale too. That’s how I initially purchased a Themify theme. I saw it on .COM first.

(Note: I think Automattic is an AMAZING company staffed by really cool people who I personally admire and respect. I’m just pointing that out.)

I think you may be misinterpreting what I am recommending. You may be mixing the concepts of a Commercial theme (which is sold to the end user) and a Business theme (which is USED by the end user to run an online business many of which are offered here for free).

What I am recommending is more filter tags for the Categorization of themes based upon their design Purpose or Usage for the end user: In the Subjects column of THE FREE THEMES DIRECTORY. Does that make more sense now?

All of the above Themes took me over 45 minutes to find. WHY NOT make it simpler to find specific types of themes by ADDING more Types of Themes in the Free Theme Filter’s Subject Column? SOME might be: CMS, Government, Hotel, Motel, One Page, Parallax, Real Estate, Travel, etc.

I doubt very seriously that ALL 2,940 Themes fall under 1 of the 3 current subject types: Holiday, Photo Blogging, or Seasonal.

Your solution is what I used above to create the list of Business Themes I liked. The problem with doing a simple search, is that it currently brings up 33 pages that I still have to search through. That occurs because many theme developers tag their products as “Multi-Purpose” or list them as being useful for any “Blog”, “Business”, “Magazine”,”Portfolio”, or “Whatever”; ALL of which become part of those 33 pages.

More definitive subjective Theme Filter Tags should reduce the number of pages that show up, after an end-user searches for a SPECIFIC TYPE of theme. IF we leave the Theme Filter system as it is now; AND the number of www.remarpro.com themes reaches 5,000 or more; HOW MANY PAGES for a specific theme search will show up then?

As an end-user, how long should it take to search for exactly what he/she is looking for?

It looks like there might be others that agree with me in the Comments section here: https://wptavern.com/preview-the-new-design-for-the-wordpress-themes-directory. I’m hoping that Core Developers will consider my idea.
