I’ve identified some sites hotlinking to my images, so I installed the plugin and found the Prevent Hotlinking setting. It’s definitely turned on. Is there a delay in when this will take effect? It’s been a few hours now and the culprits are still able to load my images (I’ve cleared my caches and checked on several devices). Maybe I missed a setting during installation?

This setting keeps unchecking itself. Half the time when I return to the setting page the box is unchecked, half the time it is.

Hi, it sounds like there might be a conflict with one of your plugins or theme. Can you carry out the following.

Deactivate you other plugins, then check to see if this feature is disabled or enabled? If it is enabled, then it means that it is conflicting with one of your other plugins. In that case, start enabling one by one your other plugins and at the same time checking to see if the feature is enabled or disabled. Do this until you find out which plugin is conflicting with AIOWPS.

Let me know how you go.

On one site, after disabling all plugins I re-enabled just this one, and hotlinking is checked off and I can confirm my image is no longer loading on someone else’s site. (Yay!) I went through plugin by plugin without a problem, and cleaned out some I wasn’t using anymore. No conflicts.

On the other site, no dice. I did the exact same thing–disable all plugins, re-enable AIOWPS first, get it set up. I’m still able to see hotlinked images, and the only other plugin running is Google Analyticator.

Hi, what is the difference between both sites? If it works in one site it should also work in the other site especially if they are in the same server. Or are they hosted in different servers?

    Hi,

They are on the same server, neither is the root site. Both are updated to the latest core. Both are multi-site installations. The one now working has been around for considerably longer than the other, so maybe it’s just old and has some junk lying around from older versions? Looking at their htaccess files, both have the same code for HTTP_REFERER, just with their URLs swapped out.

Hi, are both using the same plugins and theme?

Different plugins, everything on the one that’s working is turned back on. Only Analyticator is on for the one that’s not.

The one that work is using X Theme. The other was using several different themes but I’ve switched them to Twenty-Twelve for testing. No luck.

Thanks for hanging in here with me. ??

Hi, can you disable Analyticator plugin on the one that is not working. What happens then?

    Hi,

With Analyticator disabled the images are still hotlinking and AIOWPS shows the setting as checked off.

I tried re-installing core and then turning hotlinking off and back on, but there’s no change.

    Thanks

Hi, I guess the only thing left to do is to check the file and folder permissions. Let me know how you go.

    Both are multi-site installations

Are both sites the main site or the sub site in the multisite installation?

    Hi,

File Permissions are all good according to the plugin.

The one that’s working is the root of its multisite network.

The one that’s not working has hotlinks from both the root and extension sites, and both have hotlinked images.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The one that’s working is the root of its multisite network.

    That is correct.

The one that’s not working has hotlinks from both the root and extension sites, and both have hotlinked images.

Prevent Hotlinks can only be set up on the main site in a multisite network. It cannot be set up in sub sites.

Let me know if you need more information.

    Kind regards
