I noticed Host gator had an extra charge for domain. I thought “Oh ill try bluehost its free domain” and it has it so you gotta pay extra or they will post your address and name. So 1. whats the whole address thing about and 2. Which hostings have a flat price with no Extra fees?

  • Web-hosts offer hosting, now if they gave you a free domain just be grateful, that’s not what they do. If you want your address and phone number to be private you have to pay, regardless of your host.

That’s exactly right! Hosts that provide you a “free” domain, do so as an extra bonus. What you are talking about is domain privacy. It’s common practice, if you do not want your information displayed on the domain’s “whois” information that you’ll need to pay a fee for them to use their address. All whois information is public record. Having your information on the whois record can increase SPAM to your admin email address you use. However, it’s not required that you use domain privacy.
