Note that a huge difference between a hosting company firewall vs Wordfence is that Wordfence is designed to block attacks against Worddpress plugin vulnerabilities.

For example, the Yellow Pencil exploit that was prevalent earlier this year was immediately patched within Wordfence right when it was discovered.

Exploits such as these will generally not be looked at by hosting firewalls.
