Hostgator vs. BlueHost or others

I’ve been happy with HostGator until this week, because they can’t seem to figure out why my WP keeps crashing. I’m certain part of the blame is on WP, which seems to demand more memory or some hard-to-figure-out configuration tweaks since version 2 was developed, but HostGator can’t seem to handle it well. Never had problems until I started using version 2 and up. Memory issues, white screens of death, etc.

So, anyway, since BlueHost is highlighted on this site as a recommended host, and since they have the latest WP version available to install through Fantastico, I figure they might know WordPress a little better than HostGator. Am I right? Any experience with them?

Or am I wrong to blame the host? Seems WP has created a tremendous amount of memory problems for users like me ever since version 2 came out, and no one on these forums seems to have an answer or solution that a semi-technical guy like me can implement.
