I have a site hosted with 1&1. The existing site is there, the wordpress directory is there.

When I edit destination for the wordpress root, the only thing that shows up on the site is the HTML, nothing else shows and admin section is not accessible either.

    Maybe .htaccess file??/

Not sure what you mean by that. If WordPress is installed and you changed the WordPress or Blog addresses then consider using phpMyAdmin to make sure your wp_options table has the correct values in siteurl and home.

siteurl is your WordPress address (URL) and home is your Blog Address (URL).

    And, some other info:

Ok, https://www.ToddBates.org is the domain. The WordPress is installed on https://www.ToddBates.org/toddbates

Both work right, respectively. But if I go into 1and1 admin panel and change the destination folder to the wordpress folder, it should be there. But it is making mine only show raw HTML and nothing else. going to /wp-admin/ throws me an Internal Error. So I am thinking maybe it is the htaccess? Not really sure what it would be?

I will try your solutions for sure Thanks!

AHHHHH! YOU ARE THE MAN! ??

The options in phpMyAdmin was the ticket!!!

Ugh! That worked with main URL and the HOME button, but everything else still throwing an INTERNAL SERVER ERROR

Update your permalinks. If that doesn’t resolve, deactivate all plugins and switch to the WordPress Default Theme.

Oh, ok. I just went ahead and copied everything over into the root.
