• I have been attempting to fix plugins not working, not being able to be updated, wp version updates failing for about a week now.

Using wp version … will not let me update to 3.5, get this message:

Hosting company just sent me this message:
We have received confirmation from Parallels that the php_safe_mode is Off as verified by info.php
There appears to be an issue with your WordPress configuration causing the safe_mode On behaviour in your plugins.
It is recommended you contact WordPress Support to have your installation reviewed.

What do I do now? This is the site in question – I totally stuck and don’t know what to do next. Our main issue is the contact form isn’t working and that’s where it all began – using contact form 7 which has always worked in the past.

    Hope someone answers

  • WP can’t toggle safe_mode on and off for plugins, or whatever they are trying to tell you.

It’s a file permission problem with the host. They have file/folder permissions set wrong so WP can’t update itself and plugins.

And it’s a Windows IIS7 server, and that’s another problem.

Tell them to fix the permissions and/or ask them to switch you to linux.

To add to what Songdogtech said. Your host needs to make the windows file system writable to php including the tmp directory. They can do this by giving the IISUSER write permissions. Unless you absolutely have not other choice you should not host on a Windows server.

Thank you so much for your responses. It would appear to be absolutely true all that you have said.

I uploaded xml backup of the site to my own hosting account and everything works perfectly.

I’ll relay all the findings to the ‘host’ and let them figure it out and recommend change to linux.

Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge, it is really appreciated.
