• I see many login attempts in my logs. After defined attempts count there are “Host or User Lockout” messages in logs. But host is not locked out! I see, many attempts right after this message.
    If I open details, I see:
    “expires = 2014-11-07 22:10:10
    expires_gmt = 2014-11-07 18:10:10
    type = four_oh_four”
    Is the problem probably connected with timezones?

  • Hi,

    I’m not sure it’s an issue with the timezone. It’s the same IP over and over?If so could you manually enter it into Banned Users and see if that helps?

    Thanks,

    No, it is not the same IP.
    I’ll try to add it to Banned users next time; but I’m not checking logs very often.

    I have added the offending IP address to the banned list and it was still hitting my website causing many emails. I checked the .htaccess file and the security plugin appeared to have altered it, but the banning didn’t seem to have any change on the IP address being able to continue to attack the site.

    In the end I had to log into cpanel to block the IP address. Is there something wrong with the Ban feature?

    Hi,

    Is the IP added to the .htaccess? If it is then the plugin has done it’s job and now it’s up to the server. If it is being written to the file I’d suggest contacting your host for their thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
