We have a wide table with 10 columns. The 10th column, on desktop browsers, begins to get cut off at the 1652px breakpoint. We’d like to have the ability to scroll horizontally from that point downward, but despite setting responsive=scroll, the results remain clipped in the 10th column. But, horizontal scrolling works fine in mobile mode using Inspector or on actual mobile devices.

Is there a way to force horizontal scrolling ability on desktop device screens?

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

I’m not exactly sure, but it seems that something else on the site (a plugin or a theme feature) are interfering with the scrolling. In particular, it seems that you are using some sort of “smooth scroll” feature for the Divi builder, that seems to be “intercepting” the scroll attempts.

Thanks, Tobias. I’ve now turned off the smooth scrolling in Divi and cleared server cache. There are only a handful of plugins:

    • Akismet Anti-Spam (Deactivated)
    • Duplicate Page
    • Gravity Forms
    • Hello Dolly (Deactivated)
    • TablePress
    • Thanks Redirect for WooCommerce
    • WooCommerce

    The issue is still happening.

Hmm. I think I see the issue now. I’m on MacOS Big Sur 11.6 on a Macbook Pro 2021 (M1). On Chrome (96.0.4664.110) and Safari I don’t see a horizontal scrollbar at all. With the bluetooth mouse, clicking and dragging right and left only selects text for copying. Using the swipe gesture on the bluetooth mouse, I can sometimes get the horizontal scroll to happen, but most of the time it just does the back and next button operation in the browser (if there is a back and next history to access). The only consistent way to scroll horizontally is to use the touch pad swipe gesture.

On Firefox I do see the horizontal scroll bar the first time I scroll to the bottom of the table. It appears only briefly and then fades away. That doesn’t happen on Chrome or Safari. If, in Firefox, I scroll up and down again, and hurry, I can click the horizontal scroll bar and manipulate it with the mouse. It also works with the touchpad swipe.

So I guess the problem is solved, but the browsers are picky about when they show the scroll bar. Any way to adjust this?

    Hi,

yes, absolutely! On Mac OS (and iOS and Android), browsers normally only show a scroll bar during active scrolling. On Windows, they show a scrollbar at all times (either with something to scroll or not).

    Regards,
    Tobias
