Hi there and congrats on the really amazing plugin.

I am building a website for a martial arts school and the owner wants to create profiles of the athletes with custom information name, surname, date of birth, date of acquiring each belt, date of tournaments the athlete has participated, etc.

I created a custom post type using ACF and for the frontend I have built a template using the Divi theme builder that pulls data from the ACF custom fields.

My question is for the archive page of all the athletes. Is there a way to create a horizontal filter with the letters of the alphabet and the ability to filter the athletes by their name or surname initial letter?

An example of what I want to achieve can be found here: https://exthemes.net/teampress/

    Awaiting your kind reply.

    Hi @manouallou

Thank you for your interest in the Filter Everything plugin.

It is possible, but would require quite a lot of CSS styling. You simply can create a custom field that will have those letters and apply them on the needed posts. Then create a filter by that custom field meta key, choose the radio button, and then the rest is styling.

    Hi Victor.

I really appreciate your quick reply.

It seems like a bit of work but I will give it a try and see what I can achieve.

Ideally, the system should pull these values automatically without the need of manually assigning the letter of the name or the belt rank in the backend as this could lead to errors from the people filling in these details.

I was thinking of a filter like the one found in the standard WooCommerce archives pages. A toggle like Sort By: A to Z (ascending or decending), belt (yellow to black) etc.

Do you think that this functionality could be replicated in some way? Will the pro version of your plugin help better for this type of implementation?

By the way, if there is any developer reading that knows how to do this please send me a PM.

    Thanks!

    Hi @manouallou

There is no automatic functionality for that, on the other hand, you can write such functionality that will fill the custom field with the first letter automatically. And then create a filter by that custom field with CSS.

We have a sorting widget, that can sort also by the custom field meta keys and sort it alphabetically.

In general, you can experiment and try to get the needed results.

Thank you Victor! I will experiment and see what I can achieve.

Last question. Where can I find / access the sorting widget that you refer to?
