• Dear @robfelty,

Looking for help with this wonderful plugin on which the Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group depends.

We would like to have sub-categories, but when we place pages under other species, all sub-pages are automatically pre-opened when we open the top page e.g. “Achignathidae”. It would be ideal to have sub-categories (sub-Families) that one can expand or contract as desired. Is this even possible? Hopefully this missive is comprehensible. Such a feature would be a boon to occlupanology! Thank you for your time.

Hello. Glad you like the plugin. If I understand your request, I think this should be possible. It sounds like you want to have something like this
    Category A
    — subcat X
    post 1
    post 2
    — general (in category A, but not a subcategory)
    post 3
    post 4
    post 5

This can be achieved using the advanced option to assign a name of your choice to these posts which belong only to the top-level category. You can find this in the widget settings

here is what that looks like on my site robfelty.com

    Robfelty,

That is exactly what we are trying to achieve! Thank you for this information!
Here is a picture of the sub-page I hope to have “collapsed“, (much like your “bash” and “general” in that image)
I hope to have “Frangichelidae” collapsed, and instead it always shows up auto-uncollapsed within the ‘Pseudo-Occlupanids’. Of course I hope to do this to other Pages as well, for better nesting of sub-species.

In opening up the menu, I cannot quite determine the correct field or action.
Here is the sum total of fields I have.

I am familiar with the “slugs” for pages editable on the quick-edit page, but I cannot figure out how these settings connect to make “Frangichelidae” collapseable.

Thank you for any additional information!

    Yours in Refined Collapsement,
    jD.

Hello. I misunderstood your setup a bit. I thought you were using the collapsing-categories plugin (this forum is actually for collapsing categories, not collapsing pages). Unfortunately the setup I described is not implemented for collapsing pages, and I don’t really have time to work on it.

It would be possible to achieve what you are looking for by altering the structure of your page hierarchy. That is, if you want to have something like
    Page A
    — Subpage B
    — Sub-sub page X

Then you would simply have to make all sub-sub pages have a parent of a subpage. I can see why that is not particularly desirable though.

Best of luck with the project.

    Rob Felty,

Ah, sorry for the confusion and error, yes this was for collapsing-pages.

I am hopeful though, that perhaps I am simply missing something:
currently i have it set up thusly:
    Page A (“Pseudo-Occlupanids”)
    – Subpage B (Frangichelidae)
    —Sub-Sub page X (Taxoflora longifolia)

And that works, but sadly there is no control over animating the carrot-arrow for Subpage B. Sub-Sub page X always pops open along when I open Page A.

If that’s not possible to change… I don’t know if collapsing categories would work to order 60+ pages by page-name? If that works, I shall happily switch over!

In any case, thank you again for your time and consideration.
