Can you please provide us with more information about this hook? I saw a notice about it within the last update list.

Is this a view count? A unique view count? How does it count the views? What about if we have a caching plugin like W3 Total Cache installed? If you could please provide us with more information about this feature, it would be very helpful.

    Hi.

This is a very basic hook which allows you to give points to a user when they view a post (of any type). Viewing means that the single view of the post is used. So viewing a blog roll with posts will not give points, they actually have to go to each individual post.

Points are given once per post per user and even if you change the post content, no new points are awarded if a user returns to view a post again.

You can also set to give the post author points when other members (who are logged in) views their content. Again the same rule applies, they have to view the individual post and not a loop of posts like your blog. Points are awarded once for each unique user. Views by users who are not logged in is not supported.

I apologize for jumping in here. Just to clarify, does that mean that they are only awarded once per visit overall (like if they came back next week they won’t get more points, once is it forever) or will they be able to receive more points for viewing the same content at later dates.

    This is a fantastic addition!

    Hey.

It’s once per post. The only way they can gain points again is if you delete their log entry for the last time they got points for a particular post.

This a superb addition! Is there any way of allowing all views to give points to the author rather than only logged in users giving the author points?

I think I can see how there could be flaws in the system working this way for everyone, but I would love my authors to compete on external views as well as internal.

You can set to either give the visitor points, the author points or both. If you do not want to give your users points, then you can award them zero points which disables the hook for members.

Same things with authors, if you do not want to give them points but you want to give members, then you give the authors zero and the members any other amount.

With all hooks, awarding zero means “give no points”.

    Ah yes, I see.

Is there a way for non member views to add to the total of author points? So someone who is not a member of the site visiting a post and the hook adding a point to the author’s total?

So a point for any view, no matter if the reader is a member of the site or not.

Unfortunately awarding points for visitors is not supported because it is hard to make sure a visitor only generates points once per visit.
