    Hi there,

I’m using Honeypot on a number different sites and we’ve noticed recently that it’s stopped working and that we have started get SPAM again. Are you aware of this?

    Regards,

    Andy

  • I use your Honeypot plugin on many customer and my own sites. So far only one form is being hit like crazy since a few weeks, and I was kind of lazy trying to fix it. Interesting enough, it only hits one of two contact forms on my site, one that is on every page though (footer). Just wanted to me-too and follow this in order to hear about a possible fix :).

@physalis, are you able to test the fix?

@daobydesign I just implemented it, will test it out (probably needs a night full of bots) and will report in :)!

@daobydesign unfortunately the SPAM messages still get through. I had changed the ID of the field beforehand and now just re-uploaded your changed plugin file, nothing bettered so far :(.

    Hi all,

I’ve gone ahead and pushed a new release (v1.13) of the plugin which includes the code released in this thread, plus some additional functionality suggested by @eclare to move the inline css off of the element. Hopefully that improves things.

I’m going to mark this thread as resolved, as I can’t think of any more that can be done feature-wise to improve the honeypot (and it still be a honeypot). If there are any ideas, please open a new thread to suggest them. Also, if this update fixes the problems you noticed, please leave a note, I’d love to hear.

Updated and spam again. I made the test and it woks.

It woks? It works? Yes, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to stop the SPAM that got in recently. Seems we have to find another solution?

The test works but the spam is here ?? I moved to Recaptcha solution proposed by CF7.

Just to double-check, did you both try updating not just the plugin but the shortcode? The new feature (moving the CSS off the element) is an option that needs to be enabled on the shortcode.

I will give it a try.

No spam tonight. It seems to work but let’s wait some days to be sure.

Well, unfortunately, I updated plus updated the shortcode to move the CSS outside the field, but I get SPAM all the time nonetheless, unfortunately. I assume this doesn’t help, too bad, as it was a non-intrusive way of securing contact forms on the web up to date.

It seems to work for me. I forget to change the “honeypot” term in shortcode and some little spam kept coming. Let’s see how long it will work.

I deleted the old shortcode, created a new one in the interface and let the plugin insert it. Unfortunately, that didn’t help in my case. Glad though it works for you, @li-an.

This night, I received 2 spams. So it’s not perfect for the moment.

I’ve tried to add a quiz too and it did not stop the spam so I wonder if these spams robots are more sophisticated than the usual ones
