Hello, I just switched from contactform 7 to wpforms. With contactform 7 I also used the plugin contactform 7 honeypot to fight spam.

Now wpforms also uses a honepot protection but since I use wpforms instead of contacform 7 I get daily spam mails from my contacform. Before I used wpforms I did not recieve so much spam.

It seems to me the honeypot in wpforms is not doing such a good job as the contactform 7 honeypot? Or have there been some know issues with the wpforms honeypot function lately?

Hi @wp-opti,

We don’t have any known issues with the honeypot field currently.

In case it helps to share, while the honeypot will help with spambots, it does not protect you against spamming by human visitors. For this, we have built-in integration with Google’s free reCAPTCHA service.

And if you don’t want to use reCAPTCHA, you can consider the following third-party plugins which work out of the box to protect your forms against spam:

– WordPress Zero Spam.

– Spam protection, AntiSpam, FireWall by CleanTalk. Just a head up — this is a premium plugin with yearly subscription plans, though it offers a 7 days free trial. Please see their site page for more details: https://cleantalk.org/price-anti-spam.

Just to note that we’ll not be able to provide support for third-party plugins.

I have enabled honeypot, and using Google Recaptcha, and I still get tons of spam from russia. Maybe there’s a glitch? https://moonstalkermusic.com THEME is MY MUSIC BAND.

Hi @ceciliawilliams,

If you’re still having spam with reCAPTCHA enabled, you can consider increasing security level of the reCAPTCHA integration on your site by going to your reCAPTCHA account.

Then in the settings of your current integration, you can go to Security Preference to adjust the slider.

And if you’d like to, you can consider the following third-party plugins to protect your forms against spam:

– WordPress Zero Spam. This plugin is simple to set up, and works right out of the box.

– Spam protection, AntiSpam, FireWall by CleanTalk. This option requires registration, and offers more settings for customization. Just a head up — this is a premium plugin with yearly subscription plans, though it offers a 7 days free trial.

Just to note that we’ll not be able to provide support for third-party plugins.
