Honeypot breaks CF7 on my website

Could the browser be auto-completing the honeypot field? You should be able to use the browser’s inspector to see if the browser is inserting a value in the field.

I’ve tried different browsers, which I normally do not use (incl. private/incognito modes) –?so no autofill should be performed here. It always generates the same error.

How would I see in the inspector if the browser does this?

Hi @dikkker – I checked the form, and can’t understand why it would be triggering. I am working on a new update for the plugin that should be out later this week. If you’re able, I recommend disabling the honeypot for now, and watch for an update in a few days. At the very least, the new version has better options for analyzing what is happening, so it might help to get to the bottom of things.

FYI, you can view any HTML element on the page by right-clicking and selecting “Inspect” (or something to that effect – it’s a bit different in different browsers). You could then view the honeypot field and see if a value is somehow being added to it (it should be empty).

Hi @dikkker – just to let you know, Version 2.0 of the Honeypot plugin was just released. I am not sure if it will fix your issue, but please give it a try and let me know. At the very least, it should give some tools to debug what’s happening (especially if you’re using Flamingo, as you can review what is getting caught in the Honeypot with Flamingo installed).

I updated to the latest version (2.02) and tried in on various browsers (all macOS, latest version).

With Chrome, everything worked fine, the email got sent. With Firefox and Safari, there’s still a problem. After hitting the “Send” button, it never got any further. There was no “sent” or “error” message, it just stayed in the loop of trying to send …

I deactivated the plugin at the moment.

Are you seeing the same “stuck” behaviour with Honeypot disabled? It is strange behaviour indeed. I don’t suppose there are any revealing messages in the error logs?

I had the same problem…..

I found out it was WP Fastest Cache combining JS files into the header.

I deactivated the JS File combining and all is good.

There was an issue with using the latest version of Honeypot with an older version of CF7. Details here. This is now fixed in v2.0.5.

However – the result is the same as in my last mail. Chrome works fine (as before), Firefox and Safari are hanging after clicking the “Send” button …?

Tested with HP2.0.5. and WP 5.7

Deactivating Caching (Cachify) does not change this behaviour …?
