When I am logged in to admin for this development site on my subdomain (username – eltoluco, password eltoluco), I can see the home page that I set in admin. When logged out, the home page/url goes to a default WordPress not found page. I tried clearing cache, switching themes, making sure home page was set correctly, etc. with the same result. All other pages are visible besides root/home page, but if I set home page as another page, same thing happens.

Any ideas? This is very frustrating, and has to be something simple!

  • Is the homepage set under Settings → Reading?
If so, make sure you are not using a membership plugin that requires users to be signed in to view that page. It could also be a coming soon or under construction plugin that is causing the problem.

Hopefully this helps get you headed in the correct direction. Once you find a solution please tag the thread as resolved.

Thanks. Yes, the correct home page is set under Reading. The only plugins I have installed are Yoast SEO and Elementor. It is so frustrating! It is perfect when I am logged into admin. Any help appreciated.

I found the solution. There was some weird code on my sub domain htaccess file. Replaced it with a default and all is good.

Sorry my original thoughts did not help but happy to see you found a solution. Feel free to post here any time for assistance we will do our best to help. Happy blogging.
