• Hi, I have noticed that my homepage, that I set as my blog page not the front page, takes a while to load. Upon opening at first you just see the loading icon while all the blog posts are below, loading presumably. I feel this might be because it has to load all of the featured images at once.

Is there a fix for this? Or any advice you might give?

    Thanks

    Hello @halffrench,

thanks for choosing Bento! According to the speed tests, the size of the page is abnormally high, containing 19Mb of images (as a rule of thumb, 2-3Mb is already considered quite large when it comes to web pages). I highly recommend reducing the image size and/or downsampling – this should increase the load speed significantly (e.g. the Bento demo with optimized images loads in less than 1.5 seconds).

OK, thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that featured images are reduced in size automatically. I’ll give this a go and check out the speed test. Great theme!

Image dimensions are indeed auto-adjusted by the CSS code to fit their containers, but the images themselves cannot be directly altered by the stylesheets of the theme, thus the need for a specialized plugin which would optimize them at the point of upload. I can recommend the free Smush by WPMU Dev, been using it in many projects of my own.
