We have two links in a text widget that go outside of our Intranet to a local server. After the recent Slimstat update, these links now just go to different pages on our Intranet instead. Where they go seems to be dependent on where I place the widget. Also, this issue only occurs on the home page. The same exact links in the same exact location on every other page work fine.

Disabling Slimstat fixes this problem immediately, which is why I’m posting in here thinking it might be a bug. I’ve also added completely external links to the sidebar and none of them work (https://www.google.com). Even in a menu or text widget.

Any ideas? Could this just be a bug with Slimstat after the recent update?

Hm, not being able to assess the issue on the site itself, it becomes a little problematic for me to solve the issue. We offer priority support with screenshare, if you would like us to take a look.

While I’d love to do the support, I’m not exactly the person in charge of money in our department ??

Any chance you could think of something I could check? Also looking into alternatives to the slider as a quick fix for the time being.

My “wild” guess is that the slider is adding links to the page after Slimstat has attached its tracking code to the existing ones. By doing this, the array of links stored by Slimstat doesn’t not match the links on the page anymore, thus giving you the “random” link issue ??

Bummer. Well I went ahead and switched to another free slider plugin that does exactly what the other one did. Fixed the problem for me.

    Thanks for all the help!

Just for your information, might help you find the exact cause.

I have a similar problem. Links within single pages work fine. Links in blog posts do not work unless right-clicked and opened in a new tab/window.

In some instances, the links will open but not in their correct order. For example, if I add a contextual link to the ‘homepage’ followed by another contextual link to the ‘about page’, then the link wrapping the ‘homepage’ anchor text works as an internal page anchor to the comments form and the link wrapping around the ‘about page’ anchor text will open the ‘homepage’. This doesn’t happen in all cases.

The links work fine on my own computer but not on other people’s computers. Browser type and OS type appear not to be the issue. I use Linux, other users are Windows PC, Mac and Android based.

The difference between my computer and the computers used by site visitors with the problem is that I have an extensive hosts file that blocks access to nearly 900,000 domains.

    * No link in the text of any post works properly when I disable my computer’s hosts file.
    * All links work properly when the hosts file is active.
    * All links work fine when Slim Stats is disabled whether my hosts blocklist is active or not.

I disabled the Javscript CDN (jsdelivr.com) & disabled UAN (wordpress.cloudapp.net) in Slim Stat’s options. Neither hosts are in my hosts file blocklist. Disabling both didn’t solve the issue.

Is another CDN in use within Slim Stats?

I’ve tested with ‘Use Google Libraries’ and that made no difference.

All points to Javscript conflict. This is a recent issue.
