Homepage controls with Custom Community Theme

  • So I am trying out the custom community theme and so far I like it.

    I am sure I can figure out how to do what I am trying to do, but the problem I am having is I cannot FIND where to change the code.

    I want to change which posts show up on the homepage while using the Slideshow.

    Example: the slideshow has 4 of my most recent posts, that is just fine and hunky dory. I want to hide a few certain ones from it. (an obvious solution would be to change the date on those particular posts, but its not my style to bandaid things like that). Also the 3 thumbnails that appear under the slideshow I want to be able to make it not show the same posts as in the slideshow. I know this all can be done, I’m just not sure how or even where to find the code to edit. I’ve been checking all the files one by one looking high and low for the right function to edit, but this particular theme is hidden in very obscure functions that don’t seem to make sense (I think that was the whole point because they want you to buy the pro version). I also want to control how many posts show up under all of this on the homepage, right now it seems it has no limit and will just show all the posts. Which to me looks kind of bad.

    I’ve been looking around and it seems the reason I cannot find the file to change is because it does not exist….

    The file I want is slider-1.php

    But I do not have it…and yet the slider is clearly there and working…how?

    Does anyone know?

    Log onto your wp account and simply go to appearance > theme settings > slideshow (tab), and set your own categories, custom post types, and specific entry with post ID.

    That should at least solve your problem on the slideshow and displaying different posts than the 3 “thumbnails” beneath it. Not sure how to set specific posts for those “thumbnails.”

    To change the no of posts displayed on home page is to
    – Settings
    – Reading
    – find the option “Blog pages show at most” and change the no from 10 (default) to the desired no
