Homepage as the Main Randomiser URL

I would like my homepage to present a random page from a category. I set up as my homepage a static page with permalink /index/. Setting up /index/ as the Main Randomiser URL does not work (it works with any other URL; I don’t know if this is the reason, but when I go to my homepage, the permalink /index/ does not show up).
