Home Page Problem

  • I’m new to blogging (obviously or I wouldnt be here!). I am trying to hook up Word Press to my web site, but I dont want it as home page. I have not checked the box for that purpose, but it still ends up as my home page. I want it separate I suppose, because I use my Web designer to design everything. OK, I guess I have no idea how to get this to work so please help if you can.

  • Did you use some kind of “automatic” install? One-click install offered by the host?
    Even in that case you should be able to define where the install goes: if you don’t want it at the root (aka main page of your site) you should have it installed in a subdirectory named at your choice: wordpress, blog, emmab, moshu ??

    If it went to the wrong place, you could try to delete it and manually install it to the right directory.

    Yes, I did one click install. And it wouldnt work no matter how many times I selected for it not to be my home page. I am going through Yahoo.
    I could really use this Blog, but my designer is very expensive. So I was trying to do the easy thing (or so I thought).
    Anyone have any suggestions? Or do I just try to install into a subdirectory and name it what I want?

    If you have FTP access the best thing would be just deleting everything and do a manual install in the directory where you want it.
    Ever since Y started to offer this “supported” WP install – we have only complains around here ??

    I’d install it into a sub-directory.
    For example, ‘blog’.

    Then you can link to it from your main site.

    If all else fails, save a local copy of the WP config file, the one that has your db connection info in it, then grab a copy of WP from the download link here.

    Then, extract the downloaded file, upload the contents to the new sub-directory.

    Open up the config file you downloaded in a text editor, and double check the settings to be safe.

    Uplod that to the sub-directory.

    Then, navigate to {yoursite.com}/{sub-directory}/wp-admin/install.php

    Obviously, yoursite.com is your domain, and sub-directory is where you put the WordPress files.

    Well, I tried it all again. I ended up with things working, the Home page was not my blog, and then it changed to my blog.
    Yahoo told me that the change so it wouldnt be my home page takes 72 hours. I think they dont know what they are talking about?
    Also, everytime I have tried it and deactivated my account, my http works and my www. doesnt work. So right now my customers are not seeing my home page and I have been trying to get tech support to work on this mess for 25 minutes. Sheesh.
