• I’m using iPage as my host. I’ve installed WordPress and also a theme HighEnd.

However, my home page https://www.dinertech.co.uk remains the iPage default, not a WordPress page at all (whether I select HighEnd or WorPress’s own Twenty Fourteen)

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Is there actually a file called index.php in the root of your site? I see there is https://www.dinertech.co.uk/license.txt and https://www.dinertech.co.uk/readme.htmlp, so that’s good, but I don’t see index.php.

If there are any other default files (index.html, default.html, default.php, etc.) in the root, renamed them to something like old-index.html, etc.

Thanks. Yes, there is an index.php. It’s annotation says

This file doesn’t do anything, but loads wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.

That seems to be what it does, and the file wp-blog-header.php is there, too. It requires a further file, wp-load.php (also present) before the statement wp(), which (I’m guessing) should start everything off.

    But it doesn’t …

But, is there also another file like index.html or index.htm or even possibly default.html?

If a file like that is around, then you need to delete that – but do not delete the index.php file!!!

If that doesn’t work contact your hosting company and ask them what’s happening. They’ll be able to look on your server and tell you quickly.

Thank you catacaustic. No, there are no files with names like that, so am contacting iPage.

Hey catacaustic. I was experiencing a similar problem as davidharington here. In my case, I accidentally deleted the index.php file. Is there a way to re-upload one? What would you suggest I do to restore?
