• Greetings! We had been using Polylang on our staging site with no problems and love it so far.

However, since we launched at our live domain periodically the English (default language) home page becomes disabled and the site automatically loads in an alternate language. When we choose English from the drop-down, it continues to load in the alternate language as if English is unavailable.

All other internal site pages have no problem switching to English, but the home page cannot. The only way to fix this is to go to the English home page and ‘update’ even though there have not been ANY edits. This starts happening out of no-where, without any settings or other changes. Last night the site was loading in English as it should. Nothing was changed other than new page content since yesterday afternoon. This morning it is defaulting to Portuguese (not a caching or browser preference) from new browsers, without any memory of the site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi!

What is different between your staging and production sites?

Hi Chouby, thank you very much for your response. The only difference is that we did a search/replace in the database to update the domain. Could this cause an issue?

As an update, this happened again this morning. A colleague discovered that clearing the site cache also fixes this issue (not just ‘updating’ the home page).

As a follow-up, we read that the ‘detect browser language’ setting could be conflicting with our site caching, so we’ve disabled this and will see if the problem continues unless you have other suggestions to try also.

Hi Chouby! We have disabled the language detection after reading in other posts this could be an issue. Since then we haven’t had the problem happen again, fingers crossed it continues this way!

Sorry, I missed your previous answers.
    What’s the cache plugin?

Hi Chouby, The cache is not a plugin but part of our hosting via WP Engine.

Could you precise your Polylang settings and whether you use a static front page? I want to make tests to see if I am able to reproduce.
