"home" link in nav menu in underscore theme

I have a very simple question, which is proving surprisingly difficult for me to figure the answer to, so I thought I’d post here for help.
I am developing a theme based on the _s (underscores) theme, and the menu automatically includes a home link. I want to remove this but I can’t do it in the menu panel. Do I need to edit a function or some php page?
