The W3TC plugin does a great job of website speed improvement (caching, minify, etc.) and also security (security settings for response headers sent to the client browser).

Due to the way WP cron works (not so well), we use the server’s cron for wp-cli commands to flush the cached files at specified times followed by a site crawler (Screaming Frog in our case) to force the build of new cache files. This combo works well and is very reliable. There is only a short 15 minutes or so period (twice a day) in which a visitor would encounter non-cached files.

A few years ago, there was a period of non-support, but once Marko came on board for support, W3TC’s support has been quick and thorough.
