    When I apply the highlight function to any piece of text, that piece duplicates at the page′s HTML.

    Visually, it’s all fine, but in the HTML the text appears twice. I suspect that this interferes in organic traffic from Google, because when I turn the function off, my web stories start appearing again at Google Discover.

    Duplicating the text in the HTML like that is intended behavior to ensure that the highlighting works correctly in all browsers.

    How did you come to the conclusion that changing/removing highlight affected your appearance on Discover?
