Highlight heading in sidebar

I was wondering if there’s a way to highlight the current heading section? I’m adding the TOC as a fixed sidebar widget so it helps the reader to see which section they clicked on/scrolled to with a different color or underline.

Also, is it all possible to insert the toc manually into a sidebar widget? I want to be able to use different heading levels for the toc in the body and the sidebar.
