If I create a single schedule called “High School Football” with all of the local games from all of the local high schools, can I display the schedule for an individual team?

    [ mstw_gs_table team=”9″ ]

Otherwise, it appears I have to enter each team’s schedule separately and update all of the schedules independently with game results. So if there are 10 teams (5 games) I have to update each game result at least twice (once for each time).

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for writing. Interesting question. The Game Schedules plugin was intended to support ONE team or organization. So the intent was you could have girls and boys, frosh, jv, and varsity, across a variety of sports, but all for ONE organization, a high school say.

The intent was never to support a league concept with multiple organizations or schools. What was happening when two other organizations play each other is beyond the intent and current scope of the plugin.

That said, there have been numerous queries and requests about a ‘league management’ plugin to manage an entire league and support the functionality you describe, among many other things. I’ve been thinking about it, but have made no decision/commitment as of yet. Maybe someday. ??

Thanks for the fast reply Mark, I appreciate it.

Have you created any kind of “filter/hook” system that would allow another plugin author to extend your plugin?

I’m thinking I may take a look this weekend and see if I can “kludge” something.

Their are filters and hooks scatter throughout. For example, you can filter the settings validation results in Game Schedules and hook into the points calculation in League Standings. Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to document them. ??

If you want to look at some “kludges”, you might want to register for Gold Support. That will make it easier to get supported on the kludges (read: insure they get folded into the core).

    I registered, thanks.

It might be helpful to clarify the use case on the description page, as that’s exactly what I thought “manages multiple sports team schedules” meant – ie. I want to add multiple teams for numerous high school sports, and get a schedule of upcoming games. After some time spent, you find that’s not what it means.

    Thanks,

    Hi jnorell,
Thanks for writing. I’m not sure I agree with your comment. The plugin DOES manage multiple sports team schedules and DOES provide schedules of upcoming games in a number of ways … tables, countdown timers, sliders.

Check out this page, for example. (Sorry the 49er and Cal styles are gone as I write this due to work I’ve been doing, but they’ll be back shortly.

Yes, it does what is “advertised” there, but I had a different use case in mind that also fits that description, so wrong expectations on my part.

Eg. I wanted to add 10 football teams and 10 volleyball teams, and layout the schedule for team1 vs. team2, team3 vs. team4, etc. That fits the current description, but is not possible at this time.

I’ll keep an eye on this, I think the league feature would be very nice. In the mean time, a little paragraph in the description might clarify what is currently possible (or did I miss it when I speed-read through? ?? Just a suggestion…

    Thanks,

    Hi Jesse,
Okay, got it. This capability has been asked about and asked for a number of times. I could combine/enhance parts of Game Schedules and League Standings to do something like what you describe (a league manager?). Maybe someday … time is the enemy of us all!
