    We have had issues on our client’s site with an unreasonably high number of AJAX requests. I believe you have already had an initial conversation with the client’s host, Agathon, related to this.

    A recent update caused CleanTalk to begin sending a much higher number of AJAX requests to the server. We learned that the “store in the database vs. the cookie” setting was responsible for some of this, so the host changed the setting.

    Before they turned that feature off, the server logs were showing that 70–75% of all uncached requests were due to CleanTalk’s AJAX calls.

    After they turned the feature off, the percentage dropped down to 45–50%. That still translates to what seems to us like a high number of requests.

    Is there anything else we can/should do to reduce the frequency of the requests, while still protecting the client’s site? Are there further details we or the host can provide that could help you troubleshoot?

    Can you tell me what plugin version is installed on the client’s site?

    I’ve checked your own profile and see the old version installed on afearlessventure.com, however, I presume we talking about another site.

    The plugin version is 5.173. This is a client’s site – not the site at the URL in my profile.

    NB: I was mistaken when I said the host had previous direct dialogue with CleanTalk support. They looked at other forum posts and their server logs to provide me with the information I passed along to you.

    For the benefit of anyone reading this thread, the issue was resolved by CleanTalk support as follows:

    `I changed some settings of the CleanTalk plugin:

    ? “Use AJAX for JavaScript check” to “Off”

    ? “Add a CleanTalk Pixel to improve IP-detection” to “Off”

    It will reduce the total amount of AJAX requests and help with solving the issue.`

    The host reviewed the logs after the time of the change, and the number of requests was significantly reduced.

    We hope that setting the CleanTalk Pixel to off won’t cause an uptick in spam. It’s been nearly a week since the change, and the client hasn’t noticed increased spam.
