• Hello,

I just noticed over the past few weeks that a lot of referral traffic is being reported from my own site (chennaidreamhomes.com). I have set the preferred version to www and https is strictly enforced on my domain with redirects to https://www version. Online, it says that such large amounts of referral traffic is due to code implementation problems.

    1. I have enabled ‘Exclude tracking for Administrators’ in WordPress settings
    2. I use a Chrome browser extension called ‘Block Analytics for this website’ (I don’t have a Google Analytics filter set up to remove internal IP traffic)
    3. I tried finding the UA-xxx tracking code in page source in Incognito mode but cant find even 1 instance of it.

But I can see all the data and reports in both GA and the plugin’s dashboard widget. Can you help me identify the issue?

    Thanks,
    Tara

  • Hi,

Make sure that the right domain is set in your Properties and Views settings on analytics.google.com.

Furthermore, the tracking code is not present only on your home page, that’s probably because your theme doesn’t have the do_action(‘wp_head’); action on the home page.

Thanks for your reply Alin. Yes I checked my Property and View settings again, and found that my view settings didnt have the www for website URL. Thanks for the tip.

But since I installed your plugin, I havent had such issues in my reports and missing tracking code, how do you suggest I go about fixing this?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Maybe you’ve updated the theme, you haven’t notice that the tracking code is missing on your homepage, or maybe the tracking was placed on the site’s footer (and the home page has that hook).

    Hi,

Firstly, I don’t quite understand, I use your plugin to specify the tracking code to be inserted in the header and dont insert it myself in the ‘Header and Footer’ plugin that I use for other scripts. Has anything changed in the most recent version of your plugin? Since I update plugins almost immediately. I also tweaked sme settings since the last update, would it be possible for you to login to my backend and check the wordpress settings please? I can share by email.

Secondly, since I have now updated my View settings in GA, do I need to re-authorize the plugin to connect to my GA account?

As I said, it’s a theme issue, you should look further into that. Plugins won’t be able to add things to your pages if your theme doesn’t provide the necessary hooks. You should focus on that.

Secondly, since I have now updated my View settings in GA, do I need to re-authorize the plugin to connect to my GA account?

While not required, you can reauthorize the plugin to update the latest changes made to your Views.

Okay thanks, let me contact my theme developer and refresh your plugin’s GA authorization to see if it works.

Hi, I contacted my theme developer and they said they havent made any such changes to hooks even in the latest update. The only changes I did last month was to double check that my preferred version of website URL (https://www) was set correctly and others were being redirected to the www version.

There’s no improvement but a different warning now. I have never had such issues with my theme and your plugin regarding the tracking code implementation till now. Now, I see this in my Google Analytics notifications: https://prnt.sc/j69rl8 and traffic also has dropped from the last week.

Could it be due to some settings in your plugin? Could you please login to my backend and check if the GADWP plugin settings are correct?
