    Hi all,

Wordfence is very good WP security plugin but it comsumes large CPU resource resulting in websites being blocked by hosting company.

    Please advise;
    1)
Whenever there are continuous attacks by BOT and Web Crawler, the CUP Load jumps to extreme high. Is there a solution?

Their IP ranges have been blocked. They are unable to login websites.

    2)
How to save the “Live Traffic” output as a file for record purpose?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Hi @satimis02,

Whilst we are constantly working on making the plugin faster, perform better, and use less resources, there are not set amounts of RAM, CPU or database queries that we know Wordfence will definitely require in each use-case or hosting environment. This is also not a widespread problem across our sizeable customer base but does crop up from time to time with certain configurations.

I would be happy to take a look at a copy of your site diagnostics, which you can send to wftest @ wordfence . com. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

We do have a development case open for an audit log to export details from Live Traffic as you describe. I’m unable to discuss timescales here on the forums, but we do have discussion channels to weigh up the strength of a feature and more requests like yours have an important part to play in prioritizing tasks going forward. I’ll pass this on to the team.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your reply.

Where can I find the ticket number? I have 36 websites hosted on HostGator. Occasionally they complained the CPU load on extreme high.

I’m monitoring regularily the CPU load on cPanel. I found such incidence occasionally. It last a short span and and after reaching the highest point it dropped down immediately. I have no idea how it happened? Web crawler attacking?

    Regards

    Hi @satimis02,

My apologies, the ticket number is for premium customers so the alternative choice is your forum username which should just help us identify your email in our inbox so we can take a look. You can just provide that in the textbox provided.

High CPU load can be caused by bot or human activity on your site, as can the site scan or other automated processes like backup plugins or WordPress plugin updates if there’s no limit to the resources available on your server. You can see if these peaks coincide with activity on your Wordfence > Tools > Live Traffic to see if they correspond to attacks/blocks currently happening. If not, it may be related to one of the other causes I mentioned.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
