Hi, I’m a relatively inexperienced WP user, and I was hoping there would be a way to exclude recurring events from the sidebar event widget so it isn’t just the same darn event over and over for different days. I read some other posts that go into how to change the widget to display events by category, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Any super simple fix for this I’m missing? Thanks!!!

    hi,

sorry, this isn’t possible at the moment without custom codes; but simple workaround would be adding categories to your recurring events then exclude them using their category id e.g. “-78” where 78 is the category id in Appearance > widgets > events widget > Category IDs.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that functionality, but can’t seem to find a way to assign an event a category ID, and haven’t found any documentation online showing how that’s done.

You assign categories to the events. Once you do that, visit the Events > Event Categories menu item and you can see the IDs there, if not, click ‘Screen Options’ on the top right of that page and enable the ID collumn.
