Hiding posts with a certain category from the archives

  • Hi, i’m finishing of a few bits on my website but i’ve hit a small obstacle when sorting out the blog. In a nutshell;

    I used one category, home_questions, to populate some drop down boxes on my home page. I didn’t want to use custom fields / meta boxes as the posts system looked cleaner and it has worked well.

    The problem is those posts used only for the home page are now showing up in the sidebar archives bit. When I view my actual blog posts they are linked also. My blog has a separate category of ‘sidebar’. Is there a way I can either ask all the home_questions to hide from the blog system, or show only the sidebar category. I can populate the blog summary page with query_posts but i’d rather find a way to use the defulat wordpress way of using the blog.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi, thanks for the post. I ended up writing my own stuff on the single and archives pages of my theme. I just called the categories I was after. At the moment i’m having a much bigger problem with Internet Explorer, Embedding Flash and is wreaking my Jquery : (

    Do you remember helping me with that wp_nav_menu script? I managed to use that to dynamically populate a drop down list on my contact us page, it works a charm ; )
