Hide Shop Page!

I can’t believe there is no way to do something this obvious. All we need is to hide from customers when the site goes live while we finish tweaking the products.
I’ve tried renaming it, saving as draft, marking it private and even password protecting it. NOTHING works. I can hide from menu but surely google can find it if I can!How can this thing have so many features but not such an obvious thing as maintenance mode just for the shop?
