hide prev/next portfolio item on post page

Hi there,

Is there a way to hide the prev/next footer on portfolio items without removing that functionality from the overall site/blog?

In other words, when I write a blog post unrelated to the “portfolio item” post type, I want to retain

title
contents
<= prev entry — next entry =>

but for anything in my Visual Portfolio post items, i want that footer eliminated.
