Hide category based on day

Apologies for duplication – I posted this on the Events Manager plugin forum but wondered if this might be more appropriate. I’m working on a local dev server so unable to share a link.

Do you know if there is a way to hide a specific category if the event occurs in the past? I’m having trouble targeting the event elements with css or jQuery and wanted to add display:none.
I have a category that clicks through to a recurring event page with an enquiry form on it. I only want to show this category if the date is today or in the future.
