Hide categories?

How can I hide categories from displaying? The situation is simple – I have to add a huge number of posts to my site, but they can’t be visible unless they are all there.

They will be in one main category, with subcategories underneath it. So, I need to find a way to make those categories invisible to the people visiting the site, and when I am done adding the posts then I’ll just make everything public.
