    For some reason, just after trying to update, on one of my websites, vikingalthing.org the plugin said it “has been deactivated due to an error”. It also says “plugin file does not exist” When I tried to re-install it, it said I already had it, but I do not appear to, at least not from wordpress admin area. The plugin is missing from the plugin list both of active and inactive plugins and I am not sure what to do. I love this plugin very, *very* much and want to re-install it.

    Hi,

    When I tried to re-install it, it said I already had it,

    It sounds like you need to use FTP to remove the plugin – remove the directory wp-content/plugins/updraftplus completely. Then you should be able to re-install after that.

    Thank you David. I know what ftp is, I think, and I tried to use it once and it did not work at that time (at least for me). I do have it on my computer and have a ftp account I think connected to hosting. I just switched over to c-panel on my hosting but I think, perhaps, what you are saying is that I need to do this though hosting rather than through wordpress? Can I, somehow, go rename or delete the file and then re-install? I am running a lot of websites with no computer training but… I always need to figure out how to do everything so please excuse my ignorance! (-;

    Hi,

    If you’re not confident with FTP, then you could use the file manager in your CPanel instead. You just need to entirely remove the directory wp-content/plugins/updraftplus.

    Hi David,

    Ok. I have not transferred all of them to new c panel yet but that one is on it I think. That sounds fairly straightforward. I am going to try it. Thank you very much. I just wanted to say, your plugin is utterly amazing!

    Best regards!

    Hi David,
    I have, with the help of my host, managed to delete the file, and I am going to add it again. I don’t just like your plugin, I absolutely love it. I was so horrified to discover that my site was mot really backed up, or only partially so, when I did so on the host. I didn’t know. The plugin works so wonderfully and the screen shot directions, although hard for me, are something that even I (someone with no computer training)can understand. I shall definitely give it a good review when I am next online. It is amazing. Thank you again! (-;

    Hi David,

    Thank you! They were well deserved. Your plugin is marvelous!

    There is one more thing I am not sure I have figured out. I did manage to delete the file in the database on the hosting for vikingalthing.org and then I was able to re-install updraft plus and I am sure the part on the wordpress site itself is still working, but I don’t think the google drive backup is. It still seemed to have the google drive set up when I re-installed it, so, not being sure what to do about this, I just left it, hoping it would just work again but it did not. I am guessing that what I need to do is to set it up again, re-doing the backup to google drive process on the google site? I just want to make sure because I am a little afraid of screwing anything up!

    Thank you again for your wonderful plugin!

    Best regards,

    Hi,

    Can you explain a bit more about what is indicating that it’s not working? It’s safe to go through the Google Drive authentication procedure again, if it’s that.

    Hi David,

    Well, I accidentally was on another google account when I reauthorized, but then I signed into mine and did it again and it worked! (-: ! I am so happy. Now all I have to do is repeat the process again with my new website (which I don’t remember how to do), but your online instructions were great so I am sure I’ll be able to it again if I have a lot of tea! (-; Thank you…and Happy New year!

    Regards,
    Seana
