I am getting the following error on both my rss and rss2 feeds:

XML Parsing Error: xml declaration not at start of external entity
    Location: https://www.domain.com/feed
    Line Number 2, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Anyone know what i did wrong? I didn’t touch anything…

Somewhere, something is inserting a blank line into the top of your feed. It’s probably doing it to the page as a whole.

The most usual cause of this is having a plugin with an extraneous blank line at the top or bottom of the plugin file. You can try disabling plugins one by one until the problem goes away to figure out which one it is, or you can go look for blank lines in your plugin files.

Or it could be a blank line somewhere else. No easy way to tell without lots of testing and debugging.

Right!! I did find a blank line in one of my plugins, and after it was deleted, all was fine… ??

Oh, I also had to delete my cache before it displayed well.

Thank you Otto42–you have been very helpful over the past few months I have used this forum.

I have had the same error and have been trying to fix it for months! It also turned out to be an empty line in a plugin. Thanks for the tip!

Mayeb there is a way for the native WordPress software to remove extra spaces at the beginning and end of plugins when they are activated? This seems like the best way to make sure that plug-in developers’ work is kept consistent…
