• HELP! I just went to my site and all content is missing. It has defaulted back to ‘Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post…’ the title of the page says ‘My CMS’. Even worse, it won’t accept my login! When I try to login it tells me that the username or password doesn’t exist and then when I select ‘forgot password’ it tells me the username it doesn’t exist! Ahh! Please help! I can still view my ‘theme’ etc in the back files. No known changes were made when this happened.

If you have a backup, then I suggest restoring the backup. Failing that consider contacting your host in case it’s a change made on their side.

The My CMS in the title, seems to be related to Plesk based on other reports which is a control panel used to manage websites. Again this points to maybe an action that occurred with your host rather then something you have done yourselves.

Ah yes, our site is held through our Plesk Server. I’ll try reaching out to them to see what the problem could be. Argh… ??

    P.S. No Backup ??

Okay, the host tells me that it looks like WordPress was downloaded again? Which I didn’t do. Could it be something to do with my .htaccess files? Or perhaps my site was hacked?

UPDATE: On Saturday, I changed the email address in my profile on the server and that is when I believe it brought the site down. This is when it states the ‘last modified’ date is on my WordPress folder. To test this, I just changed the email address back and the last modified date changed to today’s date and time. Have I just lost all the content? Please tell me there’s someway to retrieve it and it’s in the back somewhere….

The pages, posts and comments are in your database. Your images are in wp-content and are not generally overwritten. Look to see if your database seems intact. FTP to your wp-contents > uploads directory and see if your images are there.

Assuming you find your content, then just do a fresh WordPress install. I would download everything in the public_html file to your PC for safe keeping. Then delete everything in the public_html directory except wp-content and wp-config.php. When the install is finished login to the Dashboard and load a fresh version of your theme and new plugins.

You should be back in business if there was no damage done to your content. Post back here to let everyone know how it works out for you.

Thank you all. Turns out I just needed to amend my ‘wp-config’ file. I checked the dates and this was the file that kept getting overwritten. I put back in my details and it worked. PHEW! Thank you all! Had a real panic there. Think i’ll do a backup now as a ‘just incase’.

    Glad you got it running.
