    Hi,

I’ve been using the Redirection plugin for a long time now and I’m happy with it.

I’m curious if it can help me with an user SPAM creation issue I’m having. Basically, I’ve disabled all user registration from the WordPress dashboard (and set default role to subscriber), but user are still being created somehow.

I’ve read on other support forums that I can disable the user registration from htaccess and I would try that if it was my project. But it’s a bit more technical for the issue and website owner I’m talking about.

    tl;dr
Is it possible to redirect the wp-register.php (maybe also wp-login.php?action=register ?) to the homepage using the Redirection plugin? If yes, what settings should I add to the redirect and what link or query should I redirect from?

    Thanks,
    C.

Depending on your server settings you may be able to redirect those URLs. You don’t need to do anything special for them – just add the URL as the source.

You can find more details here about problems redirecting .php files:

    https://redirection.me/support/problems/url-not-redirecting/

However, I think it would be better to find out how people are still registering. If you have disabled user creation then it should not be possible. Creating a redirect may not fix the underlying issue, and is a poor solution to what may be a more serious security problem.

    Hi John,

Thank you for your fast reply. Yes I agree it’s not the best solution and that it would be a workaround and not fix. However the owner of the website does not want to spend more resources on this issue for the time being.

I will add the redirects and test it out in the next couple of weeks (since the user SPAM creation happens at random times).
