• I have downloaded 3 different plugins and I don’t see any of them in the Plugin menu of the administrator, therefore I can’t activate them.

I did some reading and identified that the permissions are set at 644. I don’t know if this makes a difference. What am I doing wrong? (I installed WordPress through my server. )

  • You mention that you downloaded the plugins but you make no mention of actually installing them. Did you upload them into the plugins subdirectory? Did you unzip the files?

I am not clear on all of the terminology. I downloaded the program and put the files in the folders in my cpanel. I clicked on the link that went something like this: wp-content/wp-plugins/file folder name of program. Because there is no actual button that says install, I assumed clicking on them was the solution. I don’t know how to unzip the files.

Thought it might help to know what I downloaded:
    Themedlog-reg, Subscribe 2, and maintenance-mode_3-2.
I just need a little more guidance. I did read Mananging Plugin’s.

The file you downloaded should have the extension .zip or .rar, you extract (aka unzip) those with winrar.

When you extract them, you typically upload the extracted file in the directory that should be on your server, called ./wp-content/plugins/

Anything (well, technically to two levels – that is, files directly in the folder and files within folders within that folder, nothing deeper) within that directory should be recognized by wordpress and are available for activation through your plugins page in your acp.

Great. Thanks. I got 2 of the three plugins to appear in my admin. The one presenting the problem is Subscribe2. I am noticing that it has lots of subfolders. How can I get around this?
