• All,

I got an email about updating my Certbot client to a newer version. As a result of trying to do this, by running ‘yum update’ and the like, the underlying WordPress-based site stopped working. Since the site is hosted on Amazon AWS, I figured that I would simply create a new instance, move everything over, and away we go.

Creating the new instance and installing WordPress was easy and it worked. I then followed the guidance here, https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/transfer/, to move stuff. As a precaution, I first backed up the working files and database. Then, I copied ti site files and database to the new instance, even using the same database username and password.

This is when things went bad. When I tried accessing the website, I received the following message: Unable to connect; Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 34.229.55.165. (etc)

In an attempt to relieve this issue, I restored the saved files and database, but got the exact same error. Interestingly, I was able to access phpMyAdmin at the same IP address.

I am super confused! What am I doing wrong? Yes, there are WordPress plugins, but I am not sure how to see the entire list of them. Since they have not been installed, perhaps this is the issue? Anyway, help is needed and if there is a charge (note that the only thing on the instance is a simple site with about 20 static pages), I will consider paying for help.

    Thank you.

  • I think your best bet is to ask Siteground (does Siteground supply AWS cloud hosting?) for help if they are your host or else call AWS support and ask them for help…

Something is broken in your old site setup… could be the database or it could possibly be the files themselves.

It may even be the settings in your old wp_config pointing at the wrong database when you copied that over.

Let us know if you need more help from us.
