• Hello everyone. I just installed WordPress on my host server and have successfully uploaded several themes to the “wp-content/themes/” directory. When I log onto my blog, and go to Appearance and Themes, I do not see any of them listed, nor can I edit the default theme. When trying to edit the default theme, I get the message “The requested theme does not exist.” Any ideas as to how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

  • You need to first go to the Site Admin/themes to “activate” the themes. After you’ve done that then go to appearance/themes to activate the individual theme for your blog.

@selfmade64856: your instruction is for WPMU, it’s not done that way in single WP ??

@chiaxhong: first, for the other themes you uploaded in wp-content/themes/ make sure that the theme is not nested in another folder which sometimes happens when unzipping. In other words, format of theme folder should be like
    – wp-content/themes/mythemefolder/index.php
    – wp-content/themes/mythemefolder/style.css
    etc. etc. etc.

As for editing of default theme, you might need to CHMOD default theme files to 755 or 777 first via FTP first

Is that the administration panels? Or could you just walk me through it…I am still a noob at this. ;-P

Mercime, the themes are in the correct folders as you mentioned. They just aren’t showing up when I attempt to find them while editing in the “Appearance – Themes” section of my blog.

    – mercime – Aha! I hadn’t even really thought of that, I just assumed ??

    – chiaxiong – You’re in good hands with mercime, you’ll be good to go in no time :)))

    Ciao

chiaxiong: is your WP install in your own server or on webhost? How did you install your WP via fantastico? I ask because you don’t seem to know about FTP.

It is on a webhost. I just upload the zip file into the “wp-content/themes” and than click a button to unzip them into a folder.

    ex) wp-content/themes/atahualpa331/readme.txt
    wp-content/themes/atahualpa331/functions.php
    wp-content/themes/atahualpa331/style.css

    etc, etc

Maybe this video will help – installing and activating videos

Also, make sure that all your WP files and folders have been uploaded in your server.

    New question

Theme – PinknPurple 1.0.1 by Rob Louw

Where Pages usually (I know not always) show themselves at the top of the blog … This theme shows:

    Home About

However I just transferred an existing blog over onto this theme … which I really like (thanks Rob Louw) but he pages are nowhere to be found …

Any thoughts anyone as to how I can get the page installed in the area where Home and About are at the moment ?? Thanks ??

There are currently more than 850 themes in the WordPress Themes directory. Most people aren’t intimately familiar with every one of them, so a link to your site would probably help…
