    Hi,

I need help. I think lots of help. ??
Currently using Tiny Letter but I really like MP and would like to use it since it is integrated to my site. However, I am struggling with its performance. I have two problems:

Under Settings, I choose Basic. In there, there are spaces for Manage my Subscription and Unsubscribe. The instructions underneath read:

      Manage Subscription page
When your subscribers click the “Manage your subscription” link, they will be directed to this page. If you want to use a custom Subscription page, simply paste this shortcode on to a WordPress page: [mailpoet_manage_subscription]

When your subscribers click the “Unsubscribe” link, they will be directed to this page.
If you want to use a custom Unsubscribe page, simply paste this shortcode on to a WordPress page: [mailpoet_manage text=”Manage your subscription”]

Which to me, it seems to indicate that unless I create two separate pages, the MP form will inherit my theme’s style to be displayed. Maybe I am missing something? Do I need to manually create a separate page regardless of what the instructions say?

My second problem is that on my newsletter I added the shortcode [subscriber:firstname], but the only name it displays when sent to someone who is on my list, is my name.

    Can you help me?

  • Alma,

    1. You do not need to create any additional pages in order for unsubscribe/manage subscription links to work (they work only when you send a newsletter to subscribers, not when you send yourself a preview email)

    2. That’s odd. I’ve just ran a test and the shortcode got properly replaced with each subscriber’s first name. Could you please use the blue speech bubble on any of the plugin’s pages to get in touch with MailPoet directly?

    MRC.

    Hi!

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly!

I sent the newsletter as a preview to someone else and the links did not work. Should I assume that even if I sent the preview to someone, those links will not work? Only in the official newsletter format?

I will use the speech bubble then. Give me a few seconds.

    Hi,

    Just sent the speech bubble.

    Re,

That’s correct. “View in browser”, “manage subscription” and “unsubscribe” links are disabled in preview emails to ensure that whoever you send the email to doesn’t accidentally unsubscribe you or cause any other issues with your own subscription. If that’s the same email where you use the shortcode, then it will show your name since preview emails are “personalized” with your own information. Rest assured, things work in the actual newsletter that you send to a list.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    MailPoet Team.

    HI!
Thank you for getting back to me! Much appreciated!

I need help again? I tested the name shortcode and it is working. The unsubscribe and manage subscription links on the newsletter when sent, work but they go to the same page. That page has a shortcode. I took these two screenshots so you can see what I mean. I don’t know what to do? I thought I set this up correctly on the settings?

    The unsubscribe page screenshot:

    The manage subscription page screenshot:

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you!!

    Alma

    Re,

Please disable MailPoet 2; it seems to be hijacking the subscription page.

Hehehe!! Yes, I am. Will be sending my weekly newsletter made on Mail Poet this Thursday for the first time! Will let you know how it goes! I am excited for the ability to format the newsletter in different ways, layout wise. I have been using Tiny Letter and though I love it, I don’t have layout options. ??
