I’m trying to insert the GVC with no luck so far. Website: https://www.psychicandenergywork.com.au. WordPress site: psychicandenergywork/wordpress.com. I’m using Customizer as my theme.
I read a closed few posts about this in the Forum and inserted the Verify Google Webmaster Tools plugin as it seems to be a popular recommendation. Did this successfully; went to Settings & inserted Google’s verification code (google****.html) successfully. Cloned WordPress site so as to upload the change to my web host. Went back to Google account to confirm successful upload. Click on link; get error message HTTP404: website cannot be found. Returned to my WordPress account panel to find website not accessible. Deactivated Google plugin.

I’m pretty basic with code, etc so plugin was the most attractive option (from what I read). Can you please advise my next best step here?
    Thank you. Fran

  • Hi Fran,

Were you able to find a solution to your problem since you posted this thread over a week ago?

It looks like the Verification Google Webmaster Tools plugin is only compatible up to WordPress version 3.9.10.

I’ve also read that other plugins that you may already have, include the option of adding your GVC. For example; Jetpack, Yoast SEO and All in One SEO.

Another option is to add a line of HTML code, for example; <meta name="google-site-verification" content="GVC code here" />
to your header.php file of your theme within the <head> section. But this is generally frowned upon because if your theme gets updated or if you switch themes, you could lose this information.

If you need help adding the GVC to your WordPress.com site, check out the support documentation.

    All the best!

    Hi there Adeline
THANK YOU! After waiting for help from a few different directions, your answer has helped me finally get the GVC verified! What a process. I used the JetPack option and it worked in 2 seconds. Had tried 3 of the Google recommendations to no avail, even though I followed the instructions. Grrr Google for making things so complex some days. Thanks Google for giving on the other hand! Thanks for everything Adeline, very much. Fran

    No worries Fran! ??
